Answer: Turn it into a “stare-case!” Ha Ha Ha – what is life without a bit of humor infused in to it? But seriously, in order to update an older staircase, you will want to turn it into something that you can’t take your eyes off of!

Here are some tips on how you can achieve that vision.

First, check out the picture below. It shows a “European-style” interior staircase that screams out old-world, yet fits in perfectly with your modern home. Note the stunning stone risers and can’t-take-your-eyes-off-of-it cool banister…

Second, replace your hidden interior staircase with “Floating stairs.” You will need to remove the walls that block the staircase in order to get this effect. But there is no question that this kind of remake is definitely worth it!

Third, remodel your home using “safer” stairs. If you are a Baby Boomer and remodeling, safer stairs means well-lighted, wider stairs with smaller risers. And add a landing for even more safety.

Remember, the most important thing is that a new staircase looks good and feels good too!
